Reies

“ I will continue to climb, trying to reach the top. But no one knows where is the top.”, Jiro Ono, 96 years old, Master Sushi Chef

Landscape ABCD - acrylic and spray on plywood, 2004

"I step into my workshop to get surprised, that is my drive. I am always pushing my limits to take big risks. I learned the best lessons from my mistakes and I love that feeling when you hit an unexpected solution for a painting. I hate the steadiness, it is not a good place for me as an artist."

The artist Hector Jose Reies works were far from solving problems from real life but he knows we are binary beings between emotions and logical thought, and his work has tried to bring together these two poles that look opposite.

Nature is always present in Reies work because human beings have dwelled for millions of years in it. He uses letters as algebra symbols, numbers, and lines as tools developed by human thought as a connector between emotion and logic, two powerful machines that have driven our life on Earth, and soon, far beyond.

Planet Hectorium - acrylic on canvas, 2021

Hectorium is the most recent series of paintings. Reies uses nature as a theme with spontaneous brushstrokes like Zen painters with watery acrylic paint to create multi-layers of colors. Also, the series includes sculptures as well.

"I watched videos of Joan Miro and Antoni Tapies working in their studios which took my breath away. Then, I watched Japanese Zen Master painters and I found a lot of similarities. I thought that should be my path. Hectorium is my inner world and my fourth dimension and was born 20 years after.", said the artist.
